Avoiding "working from home" scams

You can work from home - "Work" being the most important phrase
I work from home and you can too but like anything in life there is a catch. You have to actually work. There I said it. Don't shoot the messenger. There are no free lunches in this world but there are some reasonably priced ones if you look around carefully and you are smart. If you are not smart, business savvy, educated in the wild ways of the world or more specifically the internet, get some help. Sometimes the most important first step in doing anything is to find someone who has done it successfully.

Well I do not consider myself on top but I am far from bottom. There are many opportunities to make money from home. You have the standard MLM like Herbalife, Amway, Mary Kay, etc. That requires a huge network and great salesmanship to earn a living. I imagine 98% do not make good money. You have to spend money to be involved with any of those organizations. Those are best as "side money" for house wives and people looking to make a few extra bucks. This is America and in every large group of people you will find someone successful, that is usually because it takes a lot of poor and middle class people to make one person rich. Thats just one of the rules of capitalism.

I believe some of the best real work at home opportunities are those involving telemarketing positions. These are hard to come by. They usually involve working only part-time at home work or outside sales work. Some companies hire telemarketers and Customer service people who are allowed to work from home. One example is Office Depot. Other self employment opportunities like Medical Billing are very good but again with the catch. You have to take and pass classes - usually available at your local community college, you normally have to work for someone until you learn the ropes, and then you need to get customers. It seems easy but when you figure in the expense of classes, computer equipment , software and the time it takes to actually become profitable - it can be a hardship.

The easier, most cost effective way of doing at home work is to be an consultant.
Find what you are good at and create and develop a network. Working from home doesnt mean staying in the house all day everyday. You may have to pound the pavement. It all depends on what your specialty is. What ever you decide to do, find a mentor ( not someone in a MLM trying to bring you in), do some good research and check with the BBB. Be frugal and careful with the money you spend.
