Getting fired is a huge blow to your ego; especially if you have never gone through it before. After all most four years and several layoffs in the title/escrow business I finally experienced what I had heard others speak about so often. I was fired from a well known title company because I "bumped heads" with the wrong individual. The vice president of the company and I had a discrepancy regarding a technical matter. She was wrong about the issue and I was right. In the end, had I just shut my mouth and let her be right, I would probably still be employed. After a few months of cold-shoulders here and there, I finally gave them, the v.p. and my manager, a reason to fire me. I was late! I was late coming to work about four mornings a week. I was late a good morning and especially late on a bad morning. It had gotten to the point where co-workers knew I was supposed to be at work at 8:00 AM but did not expect me there and ready to go until 8:30 am. In my defense, I must say I worked harder than anyone there and acheived more in a day than people who were punctual. I was a victim of my own demise. The lesson today: when you're already on the hot plate at work, don't add fuel to the fire.
