Layoffs: Considering an alternate offer at the same company

I can fully understand that when a company may go through some changes, or restructuring, layoffs are inevitable. So out of the many things to consider about an alternate offer in the company, the important thing is the reason for the layoff/offer.

If the offer is a demotion, but you still retain you're benefits and pension, and the pay is the same, then it's a matter of how the new position affects you personally. If it is not something you really are enthused about, then it can eventually sap you of all you're ambitions to do the job with the right attitude.

If the offer is due to a restructuring of the company, then it may be possible that others would be given a choice as well, and it just may be their particular job that you may inherit, unless you're seniority is less than theirs, and the company chooses you to fill a new vacant department.

A workplace shouldn't have to make you happy, but it shouldn't depress you either. It shouldn't be conducive to making you're feelings one way or another. What you feel is personal about the job. Others may hate having the same position as you, whereas you may love it. Same job, but different feelings, different people.

However, if you have no feeling one way or another about the new position, then it may be wise to keep working for the company so as to continue you're status for the benefits you've accumulated.

Also should you're new position prove to be unsatisfactory in a short while, then you always have the option to carefully look for, and select another company that will take you on for a position similar to what you had. It is a decision to be made according to how you feel about losing something to gain it elsewhere.

No matter what you're decision, you must not let this be a roadblock, but instead have a positive attitude as everything negative can be considered something of a positive. It all depends on the outcome of what was negative. But with the right attitude, you will find the positive side of the decision you've made.
