Reasons why some people steal

who has a well-defined ego no matter how poor and without a job would not steal for money. They would go on welfare or try to get a loan or do whatever they could within the confines of moral and physical law. If they tried all measures and still were completely destitute they would resort to an ethical decision which might include stealing.

White collar crime is stealing too, and in these cases, people are trying to get rich; and stealing seems to be the only way.

Identity theft is stealing and against the law. Unscrupulous people who are trying to get rich indulge in this type of stealing.

Some people become desperate and steal to cover gambling debts. In this case the gambling was brought on by the dominant Id, and stealing is just another method of the id having taken over.

Sometimes love plays a big role in stealing. A man falls in love with a no-account woman who pressures him into stealing. Either she wants him to do it for her own excitement and lack of id control, or she threatens to leave him or break-up with him if he doesn't get her the diamond, the things, the clothes, or the money she wants. He will do anything for the love for this woman. His id totally takes over and he remembers nothing of what his parents taught him in his state of emotional bliss. But can this be real love? Real love would not encourage bad acts such as stealing. But perhaps with the absence of real love, the desperate-for-love human will clutch at anything resembling this desired state of being.

So why do people steal? For many reasons, but the final act of stealing all boils down to having a lack of normal control because of a disintegrated ego. Except for the ethical case as described above where it has become a rational decision due to extenuating circumstances.
