Syphilis, caused by the bacteria treponema palidum has been around for centuries. It is reported by historians that Columbus died of this STD. Another person of note is Al Capone.
Syphilis occurs in four stages:
The first or primary stage is usually presented as a "chancre" sore on the genital area. This is the best time to seek treatment. Don't be embarrassed, treatment could save your life.
The secondary stage is presented as an annoying rash, which many people write off as allergies and treat with over the counter medication.
The third of tertiary stage is a period of latency, where no notable symptomology is present.
The four stage is terminal. It usually invades the nervous system, bones and organs and is, of course, untreatable. If you even suspect you have contracted an STD, please seek medical attention. It is confidential and could save your life with a simple course of antibiotics for many STD's, including Syphilis.
