This goes back as far as myth's tell us to when the gods drank sesame wine the night before creating the earth, from then on the Spice Trade changed hands many times. Spices and Herns played a dramatic rol in all the developing Western civilisations, back in Ancient/Medieval times Spices and Herbs were very rare and precious and were used in making their medicine, perfume, incense and flavouring. Nowadays of course we used Spices which are now plentiful for flavouring our foods.
300BC to 200BC it was the Arabs that traded in spice and herbs.
200BC to 1200 the Romans took over the control of the trade.
1200 to 1500 Europeans started to explore the passages to the East Indies.
15th - 17th Century is when the wars broke out for control of the Spice Trade. Spices beame more and more popular and conflicts developed about who would dominate it, Spain, Portugal, England, and Holland fought for control over the Indonesian Spice Island.
16th - 18th Centuryis when England began exploration.
17th - 20th Century This is when America entered into the Spice Trade
