Ouija boards do in fact "work" depending on how you view the word "work" when it comes to using a Ouija board. Let me explain:

There are many stories out there about Ouija boards, but one must take them with a grain of salt. For the most part, they are urban legends or exaggerated stories.

Some view Ouijas as harmless toys, and others view them as dangerous meddling into the spiritual world. Much of your view on Ouijas will determine your outcome.

Example:

If I beleive that meddling with a Ouija board will have a negative effect on me, then that is what will happen, and vice-versa. The mind is the most powerful tool we posses.

Most of the movements during a session are simply minute movements of the participants combined with pre-expected answers.

If I ask

"Who will I marry?"

Most of the people around me will be my friends and will "know" what the Ouija should say (what answer I want to hear).

For the unexplainable answers (The Ouija said I would marry Tom tho my boyfriend is Dick and I ended up marrying Tom!)-coincidence.

It bears repeating though, that most of what one will get from a Ouija session is what they expect- The mind and brain can control us from a level of which we are not aware. (Think of autonomous functions)

Your spiritual beliefs will affect the outcome, and combined with the beliefs of the other participants, the outcome can be a mixture of "answers" that each person wants to hear, yet is interpreted as some spiritual answer.

It is simply the power of suggestion, which is ultimately guided by the beliefs and thoughts (combined) of the users.
