Her name was Helga and she was a college foreign exchange student from Sweden. With tight dirty blond curls and a fair complexion she was pleasant to look upon.

My roommate Danny met Helga on what was the first day in college for all of us. He invited her to stop by our room and meet me and our other roommate Ralph. Danny was in love, he told us with Helga. He was going to marry her and have kids with her. Ralph and I just said OK, because what do you say to that?

When Helga did come by as promised she was great. It was a lot fun listening to her tell us stories in her Swedish accent. There was look in her eyes when she said goodbye though that made me feel sorry for Danny as they went off to eat. She had told us to stop by her room anytime and say hi.

Apparently quite a few of the guys in the dorm took Helga up on her offer. It was soon known around the dorm, and then the school that you could have a real friendly visit with her if you wanted. Ralph and I kept our distance but Danny seemed oblivious to it all. He too would visit Helga often and talked about her all the time.

Then one night in December there was a knock on our door. It was sometime in the wee hours and we were all asleep. Being the lightest sleeper I heard the knocking first and got up to answer. There was Helga at the door and she looked like she had been crying. I asked if she was OK and she said she just wanted to talk to Danny. I told her to come in but she said no she wanted to talk to Danny in the hall.

I woke him up and he was not happy. "What the bleep does she want?" He reluctlently went to the door but refused to go into the hall so we were stuck hearing the conversation.

Helga told Danny she was pregnant and Danny was the father. I guess Danny had become aware of Helga's extra-curricular activities because he just laughed at her. Told her she had slept with half the college so how could she know who the father was. Helga insisted it must be him, but ended up running off down the hall in tears.

Danny came back in and cursed a blue streak. Saying no way was he the father. He had stopped sleeping with her months ago. Ralph and I just listened.

When the semester ended Helga went back to Sweden and Danny also dropped out of school. Nobody was the least bit surprised.
