Common cruise ship amenities

Amenities should read "extra things you would like to see." Cruise ships are loaded with amenities. Some are included in the price of your ticket. Others are available for what actually seem like reasonable prices considering the venue. Where to start talking about them is a tough decision. It's easier just to take the cruise.

Almost all cruise ships have a serious exercise area with state-of-the-art equipment. You can get in your weight training. Equipment is available for resistance training for every part of your body. Sauna and steam rooms are found on most cruises. There is a track for joggers and walkers on the upper deck. Tennis courts are usually quite busy, but they are available. Classes are offered for those who like aerobics and/or stretching exercises. Most of these are included in the fare for the cruise.

All of the traditional beauty treatments are found on the ships. Facials, massages, various skin and body therapies, hair cuts and styles, manicures, and pedicures are all for the taking. Most of these carry an additional cost. Most are reasonable, but not cheap.

Internet access is now available non-stop on cruise ships. The charge is somewhere between $.75 and $1.50 per minute. This is pricey but if you must email and do business, the hook up speed is good. Most people can spend $10 or so dollars and get most of their internet fix.

Provided as part of your inclusive cruise experience are the various shows and other entertainments on board the ship. Variety and comedy shows are standard fare. Versions of the newlywed game are popular on nearly every cruise. Magic shows make into the mix quite often. Acrobats and specialty performers are featured regularly. Usually, something can be found for everyone's taste. Dancing and music are found in multiple venues on the ship.

For those who like the bar scene, it comes in about 15 different varieties on a cruise ship. It runs the gamut from laid back easy listening style, to jazz and pop, to rock, and sports emphasis. Pick your poison, it's probably there.

The ships all have from 2 to 4 swimming pools with slides and hot tubs. Some ships have salt water pools and others go for fresh water. The pools always are well-maintained and clean. Some are more child friendly. Others are intended primarily for adult use. Plenty of deck chairs are on hand for resting, visiting, and sunbathing. Topless is not allowed except on some ships a special area is set aside for this.

Room service is offered anywhere from 12 to 24
