I could tell you that I have natural curly brown hair, brown eyes, and other details about my physical appearance. This might be helpful to someone that can't see me, but if you are standing right before me then these little 'details' are rather obvious and pointless to voice.
The things people can't see in others are typically the most important features. One's personality can be far more interesting then a person's hair or complexion. It is true that, sometimes, you can learn something about people by looking at how they are dressed and how they carry themselves. But it isn't wise to 'judge a book by its cover'. They say "Clothes make the man," and Mark Twain says, "Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society." Well... that's probably true. But people aren't skin deep, and what they wear will not always tell you about them.
Right now I am wearing a yellow, baggy T-shirt with school print on it, a pair of 'guy' gray cargo pants, sneakers, and my hair has nothing in it or on it. I've got a black braided bracelet on my wrist and a plain necklace around my neck. I'm a teenager and I wear no make-up, ever. I loathe fashion and vanity. I hate the uncomfortable clothing teenage girls my age wear these days, so I prefer cargo pants from the guys section. As guys don't typically wear hip-huggers.
So maybe you can learn some about me by observing what I'm wearing and look like. By paying attention you might be able to gain just a shred more. I'm well groomed and have mud on my pant legs with an occasional tear or fray. My sneakers are worn and have some holes. But I can afford a new pair, I just don't need or want a new pair. So maybe I'm rugged? Or maybe I got a little muddy and flipped out that my favorite pants were dirty? I'd go with the former.
The things you can't see about me... I have strong political views despite my age, I love to write, I like animals, I listen to Classic Rock/Oldies, I'm learning Japanese, I've lived in New Hampshire & Florida and somehow ended up Missouri, I dislike war but understand its purpose. I don't date and find the dating hype troublesome, I read... a lot, use the internet a lot, I'm interested in most everything fantasy and mythical. My room is decorated with dragons, knives, and gaming posters. But by looking at me, by seeing or hearing how I looked, how would you know this? Would you know that I'm a strong Christian? Would you know that I love to eat Ramen Noodles from the styrofoam cups and that my favorite soda is Cherry Coke?
Describing yourself goes way beyond how you are dressed. Way beyond how you look. The way you look is what God gave ya'. But the development of your personality is something you build off of, something you make and decide. It all depends on the way your life goes and how you want to be. The things you learn about me from reading this are just a fraction of... me. And most of that you wouldn't get from seeing what I am wearing and what color my hair is.
