Most who knew FDR called him a democrat.
Most who hear of him now call him a liberal.
The truth is far from what Professors and the Media claim and what few political leaders of the Democratic Party boast about.
FDR was left only slightly. Born to be great he wasn't. Born to be the right man at the right time, he was. His policy of dealing with the poor was to offer a helping hand only until they could stand alone. He had no intention of enslaving millions to welfare, food stamps and federal aid. He instead offered a works program. That's right folks "You worked for what you got given to you."
Roads near me were the results of his program. They run through the Smokey Mountains and talk many millions across some of the most beautiful landscapes man has seen. They weren't built by companies but out of work mill workers, dirt farmers, dust bowlers, fathers who wanted to support their children, old men who didn't want to beg and the poorest Americans ever known. They were all rich men though, because they earned the aid he offered, not gave.
The greatest lies told in the University system today is that FDR was a liberal.
How liberal is it to wantonly and willingly support the British during the early days of the Second World War, 1939. When most were told the Democratic party would be peaceful, FDR was writing Churchill promising America's support.
When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, FDR had worked endlessly drumming up support to battle Germany in Congress was finally granted his wish.
His great desire of liberalism is best summed up by his own diary, "America's greatest enemy resides on the left. These loons of liberalism challenge all we stand for and believe in."
When he created the camps on Hawaii for all Japanese Americans, he didn't ask permission. When he sent the German Americans to the same kind of camps around the country he didn't get asked about racial profiling. He was applauded and cheered by everyone.
When the media and the left wanted Patton on a platter, FDR sent a message on his fire side chat, "One man standing up for his country is derided for his conviction. Striking a man who shamed himself does not in itself give reason to aide our enemy by removing our generations own General Lee."
Liberal? FDR ordered the creation of bomb. He made it a top secret and left written instruction for its use. He created the FBI as you know it today and gave them broader powers than any President ever dared to. He came up with one plan after another to make America stronger and more of a military power than anyone else, and they call him Liberal?
Liberal? He hated the ideal of the word liberal. He wanted the American people to be liberal with love for one another, not their enemy. If CBS had dared air a lie about him, you can rest assured they would have been removed from the air before the night ended. If Edward R Murrow had one true line in his memoirs it was, "FDR was not a saint, but a wolf hidden among sheep worthy of the title President and worthy of the praise earned."
His own party labeled him a Hawk.
What would he be doing in Iraq today? Planning the invasion of Iran. Just like he sent to Ike in 1942 a message that read, "Japan and Italy will fall into your heads when Germany is bombed into the ground." Does that sound liberal to you?
If the left knew what the truth was, they would ask themselves this question, "What would FDR think of me?"
The 3 greatest liberal icons they have, were all Hawks:
Jefferson, sent the Marines to destroy the Pirates without even notifying Congress until they had completed their mission.
Lincoln fought the civil war with every means necessary to win.
FDR, well let me say he was the greatest of all their icons but he was never a liberal.
