How to choose between Microsoft Windows and GNU/Linux

Having used computers since the time of Dos (Wow that was fun to use) Microsoft seem to have the upper hand as far as operating systems go, WHY I have always asked myself and the only answer i can find is that Microsoft is such a big money machine that Linux really hasn't much a chance Its just like the big brand names on the high streets, I have two teenage children and when going shopping for shoes or clothes, the first place they drag me into is Nike, If i suggest buying some other not so well known brands of shoes they don't want to know and this is the same as Microsoft My children always use the computer and when i mention Linux they look at me as if i am mad or say whats that, they don't even know that there are other more secure operating systems that could be used I have always myself unfortunately used IE for browsing the net and just put up with all the problems i get with it, this is because i feel comfortable using it..well up until around a week ago, some one suggested i try Firefox which i did and guess what all my problems i had with my browser simply disappeared only wish i had tried it a long time ago I have also recently visited the dell website and they are conducting a survey on what browsers to install on new computers, go and vote for Firefox..come on give them a chance. I find it such a shame that Linux is not used by more schools, collages and as this would give our children more of an insight as to what else they could be using instead of Microsoft

But this is the culture in which we live today The most powerful products are forced upon us and most shops sell new computers already installed with Microsoft, we haven't even got the option to say we want a different operating system when buying a new computer, anyway i will not be using Microsoft explorer any more nor will my kids now that they have seen Firefox and tried it they love it... well after a lot of moaning and groaning
