Adult acne: Understanding the differences from teen acne

Ok so we all are accepting of the fate that acne is just part of teen life. I mean most teens get acne. But then you think it should be gone when you are an adult. After all you've endured the teen teasing, strange looks and the embarrassment of teen acne. Adult acne is tough on adults but with proper skin care and dermatologists it can be helped out.

Did you know that some adults do not get acne until they are adults? Did you know that there are some adults who never endured teen acne?

Men and women can get acne as adults. Men are the least likely to get treatment for adult acne. Men typically get acne as a reaction to medication. Other causes are the general lack of time to properly take care of the skin until the acne problem develops. Also, men can get skin infections due to dry shaving of the face.

Women most often get adult acne due to hormone changes in the body. Some women report problems with acne with their menstrual cycles. Other women have problems with acne during the hormonal changes of pregnancy.

In a hurried lifestyle, many women have mild acne problems due to cosmetics. The problem is that they put on more make-up to hide the acne. This in turn makes the acne even worse. Like men, women lose time to properly care for their skin and acne problems can arise.

People that can wash their face twice daily with a mild soap and water will have fewer acne problems. Blot the skin dry. Never scrub your skin. Try to avoid squeezing acne spots and hurting the skin pores more. If needed talk to a health care professional and possibly be referred to a dermatologist.
