Why illegal immigration is bad for illegal immigrants

Illegal immigration now makes it extremely diffiuclt for legal immigrants to enter the USA!

For centuries not just decades, the Canada/US Border was a friendly place. Canadians wishing to drive over to visit friends, do some shopping, or even spend a few months could do so with relative ease. In fact, as long as you declared your reasons for visiting you could walk across the border! Especially the St.Stephen New Brunswick/Calais,Maine border.

Now, to fly from Canada to the USA you need a passport. By September, 2008 you will need a passport to drive over the border; along with your drivers license. Permanent residents of Canada have it even harder. Just two years ago, a permanent resident of Canada could just drive over the US border by showing a drivers license, now they need to show a PR card too. Yet, Americans have far less difficulty crossing into Canada, often they are still not even asked for identification!

Is all of this a result of illegal immigration? Of course not, 9/11 played a big role in the gradual tightening up of border security. That said, illegal immigration that is steadily growing in the US from Mexico and the bordering countries is having equally difficult effects for legal immigration.

Want a job done cheap? Hire an illegal for the 1/10th of a cost of a legal immigrant. The fall outs of course is that identity theft is now a multi billion dollar business, health care is bottoming out from tax payers picking up the tab for illegals' health care and so on.

Thousands of workers from Canada, shell out thousands of dollars each years for lawyers to assist with visa and work permit applications, buy their own medical plans and bring money and assets with them to the US. The process is lengthy, time consuming and draining, for all involved. Sadly the US governments attitude to legal immigrants is often perceived as harder than the attitude they take to illegals, very sad.
