How video games affect the way we think

by E-fileZ

My younger brother was about 10, when he discovered Nintendo. He was hooked instantly, and mastering each game became somewhat of an addiction. Well we have all done some crazy things , my brothers and I use to play this game where we made ourselves pass out. After about a week long stint of not comming out to play, my brother decided to pull himself away from the T.V. He joined in our havoc. After he fell to the floor, as I was helping him up, I noticed a scared look on his little face. I asked what was wrong, he told me that he got these, 'werid flashes of Mario Brothers'. As if he was in the game, and they were chasing him. I saw the tears in his eyes, as he got up and ran home.

Since then I have heard similar stories of people passing out, and having the same visions of video game like, sequences taking place. All of them were avid gamers. I believe that video games are addicting, due to the fact that they ARE repetative. Most people become obsessed with, trying to perfect the art of 'beating the game'. Some kids I knew, when we were little, turned out to be strangely compulsive . They were all night, Super Nintendo, Street Fighters. They were sleepless Sonic Hedgehogs. They were Dreamcast web walkers.
I can tell you this fact all of them deprived themselves of sleep, on a daily basis. They spent countless hours at the screen, online and, away from the outside world. Don't get me wrong I do NOT wish to sound as if I am against gaming. I love video games, however I have seen the affects of extended play, years of lost sleep and, self imprisonment INDOORS. Unfortunately as a result, they seem to be out of touch with reality, almost hermit like. Overly anxious, and extemely competative, almost to the point were it is real......to them.
