How to attract ladybugs in your garden

Ladybugs are thought to be lucky. If one lands on you, make a wish and it will come true. Not only are they bright and cheery for your yard they eat tons of insects, larvae and eggs. They are especially fond of soft insects.

Ladybugs need pollen though for food. They love bell shaped flowers. Good plants for attracting ladybugs are: yarrow, dill, cilantro, scented geraniums, dandelions, and wild carrots.

Your lady friends will get thirsty. It is important to keep the plants damp for the ladybugs. Otherwise they will leave your yard to find water. Also, water helps ladybugs stick and crawl around on leaves.

Be careful if you order ladybugs. Commercially fed ladybugs have trouble hunting their own food in the wild. You want to purchase ones that have been collected from the wild and not raised and commercially fed.

Ladybugs are great for color and insect control in your garden and yard. Plant a few plants to attract them and keep them around.
