Culinary uses and health benefits of rose hips

Rose Hips also known as Rose Haws are the Pomaceous fruit of the rose. They are generall red or orange in colour but can sometimes be purple in some species. Rose Hips are a very high source of Vitamin C and also contain Vitamin A, D, E and antioxidant flavonoids. They are used widely in both culinary and medicinal purposes.

HEALTH BENEFITS

In it's oil form, rose hip is used to restore firmness to the skin by nourishing and astringing the tissue.

When brewed as a herbal tea, it is used to treat constipation, dizziness, headaches and widely used to treat Urinary/Bladder infections. As a tea it is generally blended with hibiscus. Also because of it's high Vitamin C content it is also used to combat colds and flu.

CULINARY USES

In Sweden, Rose Hip Soup is a firm favourite. It is also used to make Jams, Marmalade, Jelly, Syrup and is also added to receipes for bread and pies. It's main function though is found in the use of Herbal Tea.
