Just as it takes all kinds of people to make the world go around it takes all kinds of dogs to make people go around. I've had many various breeds of dogs and a variety of mutts, which I guess might now be referred to as cross breeds for those who need politically correct references in the K9 world. Either way, mutts, cross breeds or pure bred dogs, I've had many I have enjoyed, loved and cherished, still carrying fond memories with me through the years. I have also had many that were not so wonderful.
When I had children of my own, I remember something my mom had said, all kids need to have pets. Which explains why we had so many pets around, especially dogs. So, with that adage in mind, of course my children needed pets too. After some rather tragic events in our lives, my youngest son needed a companion in which he could confide and find solace and friendship without conditions or limitations. Enter stage right a roley poley little pure pug, pure bred, broke the mold with this one kind of dog.
We found him at the Humane Society. Being a pure bred, he was a first come first serve adoption. He had just arrived at the pound the very day we were there looking for a new friend for my son. Of course it was love at first sight for both of them. Ever notice how owners and dogs look the same . . . well my youngest has the cutest of pug noses for a human being you'll ever see. They were soul mates from the first sight of each other. This was a must have dog and nothing was going to get into the way of this eight year old little boy's dream dog.
I asked the lady at the front what we needed to do to adopt this curly tailed smiling little dog. She explained the first come first to adopt process and my son stood and listened. On the way home it was all he could do to contain himself. Plans were soon being orchestrated on what time we needed to be up to be the first in line to be the first to adopt to be the first to come! He was getting this dog! Got it? Now, he was not rude, disrespectful or obnoxious. He was simply letting it be know I will do whatever he needed to to be there on time. He wanted to be sure I would.
Sleep was hard pressed to come by that night and needless to say, he was never up as early as he was the following morning, not even to see what Santa had put under Christmas trees in years past. Into the car he was, not lolly gagging round, no dilly dallying today, ready, teeth brushed, hair comb, buckled in and ready. Let's go!
We arrived two hours before the
