Gift baskets are a way to remember our Mother's on Mother's day. The first thing to remember about Mother's day is the date May 13th. The Mother's day gift basket is a basket filled with gifts, but it's not quite that simple. Time and thought can be priceless gifts if the gift basket is done right. Gift baskets come in different shapes and colors, materials and sizes. There are wicker baskets, metal baskets, cloth baskets, wrapped plastic baskets, and cardboard baskets. Traditionally, wicker baskets are common and often have the nicest and most authentic appearance.

Wicker baskets can be found inexpensively at thrift shops and clearance close out shops. Wicker baskets also come in several shades of brown, and tan in addition to black and white and sometimes colors. If a wicker basket can't be found, try a large flower pot tastefully wrapped in gift wrap or even a plastic box with brown wrapping paper around it. Essentially, going for aesthetics with a well presented basket can be a good idea as the basket won't draw attention away from what's in the basket and the overall presentation of the basket.

II: YOUR MOTHER'S CHARACTER

No two Mother's are exactly the same so just because Mom A likes a specific type of gift doesn't necessarily mean Mom B will too. Hopefully, the gift basket is already ascertained to be an appreciated gift, otherwise don't sweat it, there are still options within the basket i.e. what goes in the basket and the basket itself. Moreover, personal judgment is key in determining your Mother's character so you can choose the right basket, fillers, card and wrapping. For example, assessing your Mother's favorite color, needs and interests can be useful. Is your Mom the altruistic and loving type, the strong type, materialistic, spiritual. Her activities, behavior and possessions should clue you into these things if you don't already know.

III: MOTHER'S DAY GIFT BASKET IDEAS

Having assessed character, needs and interests we have now narrowed down the potential range of gift ideas. It's kind of like a mix and match game. If Mom is A, then Mom might like gift 1. If Mom is B, then Mom might like gift B. and so on. If you've missed a few Mother's days in the past and are catching up you may want to put a little extra into it. A personal touch is always beneficial, for example show up for Mother's day, give her a genuine hug and tell her how much of a good Mother she has been and how you couldn't exist without her etc. Then, don't just drop a gift in her lap and walk off, stay a while and catch up on her life and talk with her. *Fruit and flower basket: Fruit and flower baskets combine beauty, color, joy and taste, and are light, organic and pleasant. Choosing nice fruits, maybe some nuts and chocolate, and well chosen flowers i.e. your Mom's favorite if she has one is one way to go on this. Fruit baskets are often used to say sorry, condolences and in networking so this type of basket might not be entirely appropriate unless your Mom really likes fruit and flowers.

*Toiletries basket: The toiletries basket is a standby and often comes pre-packaged in gift shops and Women's boutiques. Toiletries baskets can be nice if they have a theme and hand selected items. For example, a spa theme would include bathing salts, really nice soap, favorite lotions and rub ons, skin care products etc. Mother's may be very specific about what products they like or don't like so look around their bathroom for items in need of a refill or simply ask them what their favorite products are.

*Combination basket: A combination basket may be the best way to go if you simply don't know what your Mother would like. This way, your chances of getting at least one item right increases. A combination basket might include a flower, a set of earrings, some lotion, chocolate, tea, a bottle of wine, wine glasses, a music CD or a combination thereof. Guess what would be appreciated and try going with that.

*Craft's basket: Crafts may include knitting materials, quilt design books, embroidery supplies, fabric, beads, gold thread, and anything else used in hand craft. This type of basket might appeal to the Mother who knits, sews or creates quilts etc. Otherwise, another option might be better.

*Jewelry basket: Jewelry baskets are good if you Mother likes jewelry and you know what kind of jewelry she likes. Since jewelry is something your Mother might have a unique taste for it might be a good idea to know her ring size, neck size etc. in addition to her favorite stones, metals and jewels.

*Art basket: An art basket can vary as does art. Small sculputure, ceramic creations, minature paintings, art museum or art guide books, CD paintings etc. might be included in this basket. The basket itself could be a piece of art for those who are really creative.

*Alcohol basket: This type of gift basket is self explanatory. Liquers, accessories such as shakers, cork screws, bar guides, and other types of drinking related paraphanalia would go into this basket.

*Chocolates basket: Another gift basket is one with lots of chocolate in it. Chocolate is a great way to help someone feel better if they've had a bad week or a way to indulge the senses with something well liked such as chocolate. There are an array of chocolate gift baskets to choose from with different kinds of chocolate.

*Tea basket: Maybe your Mother likes tea or hasn't tried all the different kinds of exquisite teas on the market. A tea basket is just the thing for this type of thing. With all the elegant and tasteful teas and tea supplies, this might be a hit with your Mother.

Knowing exactly what to get your Mom for Mother's day isn't always a quick study, but shouldn't take the entire week to figure out either. Understanding your Mother's preferences, tastes, interests, hobbies and favorite products or natural objects can all go a long way when mixed just the right way into a gift basket. but trying to remember that it is her day and about her is a good start. The Mother's day gift basket ideally tells your Mother how much you appreicate her, how much she is loved and how much you care, don't forget the card!
