Poetry: Humanity

'Ism

Today I saw another one
'twas just a fleetng glance.
It waltzed right past my eyes
a familiar kind of dance.
Like a fairy on the wing
or a penguin sliding on ice.
The very moment that I saw it
it was gone in just a trice.
The footprints that it left
have a heavy tale to tell
of burden of the heart and soul
and how humankind fell.
For an 'ism is a wicked brute
that hurts and pains us all.
Causing suffering to its harbourer
and those who hear it's call
So be it racism or sexism
or any kind of 'ism at you hear
clutch your ears with your hands
don't accept its hate and fear
Reject the 'isms that abound
and stop them in their tracks
be watchful of the path ahead
and the 'isms behind your backs
Cast all 'isms aside from you
and replace them all with care
for loving hearts will conquer
when 'ism isn't there.
