Think back to the sixties. Remember all those folk songs that were floating around at the time? How about Turn!Turn!Turn!, originally recorded by Pete Seeger and then covered by the Byrds? This song has always held an uplifting message for me. Perhaps you didn't know, but the lyrics of this song were actually derived directly from the Bible.
All the words of Ecclesiastes chapter 3, verses 1-8 were all cleverly imported into this catchy song. Pete Seeger rearranged some of the words and added a lovely melody and he created a hit. It is evident how directly the words of the song are connected to the verses of Ecclesiastes: "There is a season (turn, turn, turn)/And a time for every purpose, under heaven" and part of Ecclesiastes: "1There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven".
The verses after the passage which the song was inspired from read: "9 What does the worker gain from his toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on men. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end."
This great song with its inspiring lyrics can uplift you from a sullen mood. Remember the neat fact that it was derived from the Bible and surprise your friends the next time you hear the song by telling the little secret about the lyrics!
