Heartburn treatment

the appointment, she had three supplements known for both healing and promoting a healthy digestive system, not just covering up the problem. When she mentioned the names of some of them, I cringed just a bit. I know full well that supplements are notorious for tasting nasty. But, rest assured, these didn't.

The first supplement she suggested was called Whole Leaf Aloe Vera Extract. We put Aloe Vera on our sunburns when our skin is scorched, so the same theory can be applied to the inside of our bodies, only in a different form. It was to be taken in small quantities and utilized to promote a smooth, unburned esophagus while healing the current inflammation at the same time.

The second product turned out to be a probiotic. These tablets would terminate any harmful bacteria harbored in the stomach, intestines, and colon. And the good news was that I would only need one bottle of them; when they were finished, it wouldn't be necessary to take them anymore.

The third suggestion is more commonly known: enzymes. These help the acid in the stomach to actually make its way through the food to digest it properly. Some of the main ingredients included marshmallow and slippery elm, also used for promoting the healing process. I was instructed to take a couple of these per meal until my heartburn subsided a bit, and then I could cut back. In addition to these three, she also recommended that I drink a bland juice for the time being; white grape or pear. I had no qualms about these, because they tasted delicious and cooled any after-heartburn effects.

It has now been about nine months since I started taking these supplements. I still can't believe the difference. After the Aloe Vera and probiotic were gone, I only needed one more bottle of the first one; after that I took enzymes only. Now I have a less powerful enzyme, which I take only when needed. Of course, I get a small flare-up every once in a while, and I choose to use Gaviscon or Maalox just to quell it a bit. But this occurs only once a month or so, in which case I needn't worry about it too much. I cannot express how thrilled I am to know that I will not be on prescription drugs all my life, forcing myself to cover up a problem that would never be fixed otherwise. Nutritional supplements might not work for everyone, but they were a lifesaver for me.
