Short stories: Deja vu

but everything was done before?!?!?

Just as quickly, the feeling was gone and Dina's perception returned to normal. She tried, desperately, in her mind to dig around for: 'why'.

The bell rang, signaling the end to biology class. The teacher motioned for her to approach. "I need you to be here no later than 12:15 to do the make-up test." Dina replied: "OK," sort of absent-minded, as an after-thought.

She arrived back in the classroom, right on time. As she sat in her chair, she noticed the teacher rise from his desk and turn to the board. She opened her legal pad, began writing the date and her name at the top of the page.

Before her minds eye, came the 'picture' of her notes as she had written them on the properties of DNS and RNA, their differences and similarities, even the diagrams she had drawn. Funny, she was able to flip the page in her mind to 'see' all of her notes!

She shrugged her shoulders, and began writing. After she had completed what she could 'see' of the lesson in her mind, she looked up. The teacher was still writing! He had moved over to the second board, and was just completing his last question!

A wave of...got only know what, washed over and through her, making the hair on her harms rise up in massive goose bumps!

She sucked in her breath...She couldn't get up and give him the paper NOW!. She has to WAIT!

After what passed for a very great amount of time in Dina's mind, she rose and brought her papers to the teacher.

He gave her a VERY funny look, asked: Finished already?! In Dina's mind, a comfortable amount of time had passed. He said: "I just sat down...how can you be done!?"

Again, Dina shrugged and sat down as he stated: "Stay here while I check this over!"

A few minutes later his voice, calling her name, brought Dina out of her reverie. She approached his desk. He did not stand, but showed Dina her mark: 99/100! Dina sort of jokingly said: "Did I spell my name wrong?"

He replied; "How the heck did you finish so fast? Did Mark tell you what the test was about?" he was looking at Dina very curiously. Dina could not reply. "No, it's just a minor error in how you explained the separation of the mitochondria in the RNA sequence", he continued. Dina bent over his shoulder and looked at what she had written.

Her next words were spoken very cautiously: "There is a discrepancy in the textbook. This page explains it this way, and flip over to the next page, and the text contradicts the first explanation." This spoken, while she showed the paragraphs to the teacher in the book.

"I'm not arguing over the 1 point, it's just that I would at least like to know which way is correct", Dina explained.

The teacher flipped between the 2 pages, studying the text: "I don't believe it! They have totally contradicted themselves here! How did you pick that up?"

Dina could not even explain to herself what had just happened, let alone trying to not sound crazy, explaining it to him!

That teacher never asked her for a signature for anything from her father again, that year.

Her time was spent the remainder of the year very quietly, not sure of what happened that day.

The only thing she knew for sure, was, her father WAS right; the brain, the mind and the soul are WONDERFUL things and there are more things out there than we can just persceive with our 5 senses!
