or quit smoking: you're reprogramming your subconscious and when you do, focusing on the results you want, then things change.
The cards show what is going on in your unconsciousbecause whether you're aware of it or not, you're (in part) creating the future from the present. The Tarot reflects that level (good or bad). One way to think of it is like when a terrific baseball player is suddenly in a slump and has trouble at the plate. Of course he wants to hitthat's why he's playing, for goodness' sake! Similarly, the cards can reflect that kind of unconscious sabotage that prevents one from realizing desires and goals. Physically, there's no problem, but the batter has to "retrain" his thinking, get himself mentally back in gear in order to get out of the slump, he has to re-create a new future based on getting those hits.
That said, you can be in a great mood and get lousy cards, or a really lousy mood and get a great readingbecause the cards are reflecting your subconscious. It actually doesn't matter if the reading is done over the phone or by e mail sitting down face to face, because the cards are reacting to your conscious and subconscious hopes and fearsand hope and fear govern a large part of our individual fate or fortunes.
A couple of caveats: it's more difficult to read for yourself than for others (though however you approach the cards, you'll need plenty of practice). Secondly, if you decide to learn to read them you'll notice after a while that certain cards take on certain meanings for you, that certain decks seem to "work" better, and that certain layouts or spreads also work better. There's no mysteryyour subconscious let's the routine slide by and then focuses on the "real" stuff; and that's no different from the way you efficiently go about your morning routine so you can get to work on time: coffee, shower, getting dressed, etc.
But one caveat I'd strongly urge you to be aware of is that, of course there are people out there who are scam artists or just plain lazy. Reading the cards takes effort, concentration and focus. I do read for others, but I don't do it if I'm tired or out of sorts. If I'm not at my best, I ask friends and clients alike to wait a day or so till I can read with all of my ability. But not everyone will do that. They may just read and not give a damn if the whole thing feels off or out of whack (and it probably does to them, too).
The cards work but it's important to approach them when you're in the right frame of mind, when you're willing to listen to their guidance whether it's what you'd like to hear or what you'd rather not here. When you're ready to listen, the cards, like your dreams, are keys to your subconscious, to your inner being and can provide true wisdom.
They can tell you that something unpleasant is in store; and, they can surprise you and point to good times ahead when you feel you like you'll never get out of the current rut. Suddenly you turn the corner and new hope, new love, new life walks in.
And the cards were right all along.
