Hello, fellow Heliumites.
Just joined last night after stumbling upon this site. What a great idea! Anyway, down to business...home based business.
There are tremendous opportunities all around to start your own home business. Some bad, really bad and some great. Take your time, look around and see what is best for you. Not your friends or any other influences. What can you picture yourself doing from the comforts of your home. Once you find that special opportunity, you need to strap on the blinders and focus. This is now your business, your escape clause from the working world. There will be investments you never planned on and be prepared to put aside a chunk of cash for marketing. How will anyone know who you are and what you have to offer without letting them know.
Create a website, list with DMOZ and other reputable search engines, create blogs, direct mail marketing, pay per click ads (Google Ad Words), local newspapers...the list goes on. Make sure you have the right message in your marketing efforts. You may get many people looking at your offerings but are they really interested. Know your target market and have fun. This process may take awhile and can use up some of your "rainy day funds" rather quickly.
Do you have the discipline?
Working from home isn't as easy as you think. Sure, you have much more flexibility in your life but no one is telling you what to do anymore. We are programmed to be told what to do. This helps us focus and get the job done, but now you are on your own. To be successful you need to be disciplined in your efforts...everyday. Create a schedule and stick to it. I find getting up early, going to the gym, then putting in 5 - 6 hours works for me.
I have started my own "escape clause" and cannot even think of doing the 9-5, 5-6 days a week for another 25 years. I enjoy my freedom, I get of feeling of accomplishment, I spend more time with the family and most important to me...I create my own destiny...I now own myself and I am liking it.
If you are interested in learning more about what I found that works for me visit www.thewealthycowboy.com. Yah, I know, I am plugging a business...it is done all the time. At the end of the day though, you must be comfortable with your decision.
This may or may not be for you. Remember, you are in charge.
Cheers,
JB
