HOW TO BE A GREAT JOCKEY?
As with anything else in life you need to be determined and hard worker if you want to rise to the top level. And that is not even enough if you want to be a jockey! You need to have passion for horses, passion for winning and you need to be an excellent rider. Top jockeys know how to read each horse and what to do to keep them calm and make them explode on the stretch. Not as easy as it might seem!
Thoroughbreds are very strong and big animals and jockey needs to be in very good physical condition and mentally strong to guide the horse around the track for the best results possible.
Great jockeys do not appear overnight. They do the work and breeze numerous horses in their lifetime to learn all the tricks and keep in shape.
It is also important for a jockey to learn how to loose and how to communicate with trainers and owners. Great jockey is most often also a great negotiator and knows how to keep the best trainers happy. There will be time when jockey has to choose between the horses and many times it is a hard task. Finding the right agent who will negotiate th best deal for you is very important. But at the end the jockey is the one who will face the trainer and the owner after the race.
Everybody loves a winner but to know how to handle the situation if horse did not perform as expected is vital if the jockey wants to stay in the game for a long run!
To top this all great jockeys are short and light with strength of a world's strongest man competitor in the smaller scale!
I believe nobody can train to be a great jockey. You need to be born to be a great jockey to have the right instincts and the right body. And the will to win! Again and again and again..
