Sage will promote hair growth and so many of us thought sage was only good for stuffing.
Sage is also well suited to ease female problems, ease sore throats, swollen glands, promotes healing in wounds. It is no surprise that sage is an ancient cure all. For the Romans and Chinese.
From poultices to onion and sage dressing, sage is one of the most overlooked herbs in today's' society.
Sage tea/tonic- can be made by simply pouring hot water over the sage, steep for a
few five minutes or so. For use as an astringent and hair tonic, apply
the tea to directly to your scalp and/or skin. Sage improves circulation
as well as reducing inflammations.
Sage tea with honey- Prepare tea as above, however you may add honey as a
sweetener. Drinking this tea will bring comfort to menstruating women,
ease sore throats, expels worms from digestive systems and calms nerves.
A sage poultice- may sound a bit old fashioned, but it works. To make a poultice
simply mix ground sage with enough water to form a paste. The poultice
should be applied to a soft cloth, then apply on the sore, inflamed area.
Then cover with plastic wrap, and then cover with a cloth. You will need
to reheat the poultice approximately every twenty minutes or so.
Repeating for about forty minutes. Repeat this process two -three times a
day. The uses for poultices are: soothing to lactating mothers sore
breast, any swollen and inflamed glands, and sore muscles. Clean the
areas where the poultice will be placed well, you may even rinse the area
with sage tea before applying poultice. Sage is an excellent cleanser.
Which leads me to our diets, sage is not only wonderfully flavored for cooking but is used in fatty meat dishes to assist the body with digesting fatty meats, and rich stuffing and dressings. Sage is often overlooked for its some of that up. Sage can be sprinkled on chicken, lamb, liver, roast, pork and a main ingredient in sausage. Simply digesting these meats is easier on your body when sage is included in your meat dishes. Most dishes that include a lot of onion or garlic blends well with sage. Onion soups and stews agree with sage.
