Short stories: A rendezvous at the museum

I quietly removed my coat and gloves as I entered the solid glass revolving doors that guarded the entrance to the museum.

Spinning around I couldn't help but notice that this place held so much history as well as a wealth of knowledge. I could smell the antiquity and old world scents that lingered as if entwined within the displays of times past. Men and women from the ages stared down at me with humble yet proud eyes, imparting their wisdom about an age of so long ago.

As I gazed at the various, wondrous stages of bygone eras unfolding before me I could hear the roar of the battle raging all around as the soldiers gathered, guns raised high above them as they moved steadily forward despite the agony and horrors which surrounded them.

The era of the Great Wild West loomed realistically before me. The rugged and harsh countryside was a strange mix of desert and scrub. The towns were cloaked in a choking, dusty film which relentlessly mingled with the air. The split timbers and boards of the buildings a contrast to the frilled petticoats and dresses of the ladies of the bordellos.

Glancing at my watch I realized that I needed to hurry if I was to be on time for my meeting...a rendezvous of sorts. I quickened my step. My heart racing with anticipation, I toyed with the numerous possibilities that awaited me. The atmosphere of ancient remains and relics imparted a strange and exciting sense of life unfolding directly before me.

And suddenly there they were...those dreaded men in white!

"Come on Mable. It's time to go back. Do tell us dear, just how do you get past us at the hospital?"
