How to attract ladybugs in your garden

by Allyjay

For some reason this year, my garden is in abundance of ladybirds, which is pretty early for Essex, but it is meant to be a sign for a very good summer. To attract ladybirds to your garden is quite a simple task, all it takes is to select plants which are pollen-rich. There are so many varieties of this, so here are just a few which I know will attract them:-

Angelica, Dill, Tansy, Coriander, Sunflower, Thyme, Parsley, Catnip

even weeds such as Dandelions and Yarrow will ensure they visit.

Take heed though, many plants such contain a natural insect repellent in their own oils and will distract them, for example Garlic.

It is great though to try and attract Ladybirds as these are a natural pest destroyer, feeding on whitefly, scale insects, greenfly and mealybugs, so go buy some plants and let nature start doing it's work.
