The Meltdown of Society
As we set foot into the 21st century, experts are predicting that we face a social phenomenon unlike any seen before. We are told to ready ourselves for a future communal meltdown, owing to family disintegration, abortion, divorce, pornography and extramarital sex. This outcome results from the loss of one crucial element morality.
In the wake of world calamity, many have paused to contemplate their lives, questioning family ethics alongside those of society. The startling conclusions show the modern family being ethically lobotomized, morally inverted and ideally abandoned. Whatever the term, astute observers note that family trouble has coincided with the decline of moral observance.
More than a flowery metaphor, it paints a picture of rampant societal animosity towards marriage, family, virtue and honour. This is in sharp contrast to Canada's beginnings, when family formed the backbone of this country through private moral principles. But over the years, subsequent cultural shakedowns had a gradual, eroding effect upon these.
Much of this began with the influential theory of evolutionism. It's not difficult to see that if man is a descendant from lower forms of animal life, there can be no objective code of morality governing his conduct.
Karl Marx decried religious belief as the "opium of the people" and Sigmund Freud christened religion "the universal neurosis of humanity." Given such virulent anti-spirituality at the core of their philosophical belief, it's easy to see why these men had such a profound influence on later generations.
The decade these things came to their own was the 60's, where overt protests were made against all authority. The "New Morality", which promoted liberty from moral regulations, was a rejection of the objective standard of God's law. The sexual revolution, birth control, divorce, and legalization of abortion were also major contributors which combined to support the crisis.
Nothing was sacred anymore, not God, not the Church, not anything; since life itself became just another commodity. Families also didn't seem to care about teaching the moral code anymore, so it wasn't conveyed to the next generation. How could parents expect adherence to it from their children, if they failed to teach it?
Opponents of organized religion now fight to ban prayer in schools, and prevent the Ten Commandments from being recited. They also want to eliminate all mentions of God from political chambers,
