To plan a successful Cinco de Mayo fiesta, you must first decide on the kind of party you will be having. If it is going to be kid-friendly, it is generally a good idea to have a lot of fun activities for them to participate in. Here are some ideas:

ARTS AND CRAFTS

Bean bracelets
Tissue flowers

COOKING FUN
Tacos
Burritos
Nachos

GAMES
Pin the tail on the donkey

In each case, be sure that the children are supervised and directed by an adult. All of the aforementioned are simple things that children can participate in to keep them busy. In the meantime, they will have loads of fun. If they come in costume, the more merrier it will be!

If you are looking to throw a more adult-oriented party, you can still enjoy the activities listed above. You could even fill the pinatas with more adult-themed goodies. Thirsty? Here are some alcoholic beverages to enjoy such as:

Corona
Sol
Cerveza Superior
Tequila Sunrise
Kahlua Mudslides
Margaritas
Sangria

What will really tie your fiesta together is the proper ambiance. Go all out! Decorate your place with streamers, paper lanterns, hanging parrots, palm trees, piatas, streamers, etc. A good Mexican music background will add to the atmosphere as well. Some bands to think about include:

Banda el Recodo
Los Horoscopos de Durango
Moderatto
K-Paz de la Sierra
Molotov

Or one of the many Mariachi bands. Jorge Negrete is probably the most famous singer in the genre.

One thing to consider when throwing a Cinco de Mayo bash is to make sure that everyone is safe. Collect keys if you have to, preventing anyone from drinking and driving. Remember that moderation is the key to having a good time.
