If you get fired from your job, it can seem like the most devastating thing in the world to you. You not only have lost your means of support but someone has virtually told you that your were a lousy employee and that can be very hard to deal with. Many adults make a direct reflection of their own self worth based upon their job performance. It is very important to understand that it is not always "terminal" whenever you get fired.
The first thing that you must do when you get the pink slip is to ask questions. Ask your boss what it was that you did wrong. Most of the time you know that you are going to get fired because you usually get wrote up before a company terminates you. However, if that is not the case then you certainly have the right to try to find out why the company no longer finds your services necessary. Sometimes the boss will gladly tell you and sometimes they won't. In either case you must come to terms with the termination and try very hard to turn the situation into a learning experience.
If the boss does explain you mistakes then make sure not to repeat those same mistakes at you new job. Yes, you will get a new job and become a better employee in the process. Graciously accept any criticism from your boss and take the lesson on with you. Build from the mistakes and make sure that your respect your company that has terminated you. You may not like being fired but you must respect their right to do so. If you handle the situation with grace and dignity then they are more likely to respect you when you walk out the door. More than that however, you will be more likely to respect yourself.
