Benefits of playing video games

give free reign over to their children when it comes to video games. Parents should still ensure the video games their children are playing fall within the category for their age level and maturity. Limits on playtime should be a part of the daily routine as well. However, it is becoming more apparent with studies coming out all the time that there are some major benefits to allowing children to play video games. Studies still show that obesity is a major problem among young people today although Nintendo is doing its part by bringing about the new generation of gaming console the Nintendo Wii that requires movement of the whole body and not simply the eyes and hands.

The game Dance, Dance, Revolution with the mat that connects into the game console is another game with positive aspects. Children, teenagers, and even adults are taking time to get on the mat to boogie to the beat thus combining game playing with exercising in the form of a video game.

Game designers are beginning to understand the need for educational video games too. We have the Big Brain Academy that currently has two educational games available that include math, science, English, history, and other subjects with problem-solving tests under the guise of fun. Later this year, Big Brain Academy will release Big Brain Academy Degree Wii for Nintendo's Wii console. Early reports claim this will include multi-player options where one can play against an opponent. Perhaps family night charades will be replaced soon with video games such as Degree Wii. The educational one-on-one player options not only have the propensity to provide all the things mentioned above with motor skills and visual strengthening, it will also give families a chance to exercise those brain muscles. Any game that combines education and fun while having children believe they are playing cannot be all bad.
