The case for civil rights for minors

to become a nation totally free from prejudice, and bigotry. If we are to promote freedom, shouldn't we promote it for all of our citizens, even those who are younger than we?
In a year, or two, or three, some of these young people could be sent off to die for a country that ignored their needs and their rights.
They had no power to vote, no say in whether or not America went into this war, yet upon turning 18, many are at the age where they will be at the greatest risk of dieing in a war they never wanted, if the power hungry authorities succeed in instituting the draft.

A young person today is not able to seek medical care, without a parents permission. They are not able to make choices for their own lives, or in cases of abusive home life, get help, without the abusive parents becoming aware.
They are still treated, in many ways, just as African American slaves, and women were once treated- as the "property" of another person.
While at first, many people were against giving other minorities their rights, based on fear of what would happen to themselves, the oppression of African Americans, and women as well, finally came to an end. Today we can look back and see with clarity how wrong it was to deny these people social rights, and equal treatment under the law.
When considering minors rights, we need to do so with sensibility. Generally when any one population seeks to oppress or control another, it is a fear based mentality that upholds the belief system, in regards to the "What if's..."
Many people believed that if African Americans were given equal rights they would lose out on jobs, money and freedom, themselves. Even if had this had happened, I would ask, is promoting your own welfare, over the welfare another, at the expense of the other, I should say, the moral, ethical or socially just thing to do?
