There is nothing in life like getting paid for something you love doing, and most every who works for a nonprofit knows of this divine pleasure firsthand. These jobs are not only usually enjoyable, personal experiences in and of themselves but they usually provide the added benefit of easing your conscience as well.
We all want to make a difference in this world. We identify things we see as wrong and if at all possible take steps on the path to their solution. Those who find a job for a nonprofit in the area they have issues with truly number among the lucky.
One important distinction to make is that just because you are working for a nonprofit does not mean you do not get paid! This is the main difference between working for a nonprofit and volunteering for charities in general.
There are some instances where you might have to accept less than industry standard to get one of these jobs. This is a time when you need to weigh your desire to help against your desire to achieve your personal financial goals. You also need to decide if you can comfortably live off of your finances from this particular job.
I think that the satisfaction gained from these jobs more than outweighs the potential loss of revenue. People who work for nonprofit may not sleep in the best beds, but they nonetheless sleep the soundest.
