We have, in our society, become obsessed with cell phones, or mobile phones, as we call them in the UK. We never go anywhere without them and, heaven forbid, we should ever switch them off! Yet there is, in my opinion, a very cheap alternative.

I am not talking about a new cutting edge technology, it is not even an original idea. It is something that my parents did and their parents before that, but, the way things are going, something my children will not do.

What I am suggesting is that, rather than send a text, or spend an hour on the phone running up your bill, you should actually meet your friends face to face. Get out and talk to them, interact with them. Isn't it better to see and hear a reaction than just hear it, or, in the case of text messages, not even hear it, just read it.

It does not have to cost you anything more than a little effort to meet your friends. Just think how much you could save on your contract if you didn't need 1000 minutes and millions of texts because you were actually talking to people face to face.

We are not going to get rid of mobile phones, and I wouldn't suggest it. I have one and find it very useful, but surely we don't want to let them become more important than people, do we?
