I don't want to be too abrasive to anyone in particular but anyone who believes that a single person doing anything different will affect the changes that are occurring is nonsense. It sounds like those people who believe god will continue to make oil for us to use and therefore we don't need to worry about the collapse of the entire world's economy when it runs dangerously low in a decade or so.
China is just beginning their use of fossil fuels to provide the relatively cheap energy they need to become the next economic super power. They are obviously working on dams and other forms of energy to supplement and eventually replace the fossil fuels but like any good capitalist country they will use whatever is the cheapest and easiest to obtain. Like the US and Britain they are more concerned with their development than they are with what they may be doing to the world. To be honest who can blame them?
Global Climate Change is a fact. It is not relevant in the short term whether or not mankind is causing or enhancing its effects. When sea levels rise those at the coasts will move inland. Those who have the wealth and power will buy what they need to push others out of their way while those who stand in the way are removed by one means or another. Where the water dries up the wealthy will simply move from there the next place they can exploit. It has always been this way.
What Global Climate Change is going to demonstrate clearly is two things. It will demonstrate whether or not mankind has still got the Darwinian upper hand on nature and is able to survive the change. The other thing that will be demonstrated is how far those who have mostly raped the environment will be allowed to continue to do so regardless of how many governments, laws, judges, and lawyers they can buy.
We may see a momentary paradigm shift while it all "shakes out". Pushing the worlds six billion plus into an even smaller area of dry land can't be a good thing.
There is a list of potential civilization killers being kept by various people here and there. On this list is the collapse of the USA when 80 million people leave the work force and start drawing money out of every possible program they can. This collapse will be helped along by all the other things the USA has lost in the last few years like respect and trustworthiness around the world. The dollar isn't king anymore everywhere on the planet. I am sure the Romans thought they would rule forever just as the Egyptians did. Global Climate Change will be just one more change to deal with in a country so fragile that 19 guys can send it into a insane panic for 6 years. Ironically most of those guys came from a country that sells us the fossil fuels we pollute the air with. Go figure.
You aren't going to dent Global Climate Change anymore than you can make a dent in the massive amount of ignorance that still rules our species. Most people have a false sense of pride in being at the top of the food chain. It is a false sense because most people live by the intelligence of a few. Only a few are smart enough to invent the things that we take for granted. Most of you couldn't plant, grow, and harvest your own food. Most of you couldn't build a generator. Most of you couldn't sanitize your water. Let's face it. When the coming changes hit and society starts to stumble and the intelligent people are taking care of themselves and their own. What are you going to do?
Global Climate Change is Global Civilization Change. Get ready for it because its coming.
