I watched monday night RAW this week as I haven't seen Backlash, the last pay-per-view event presented on sunday april 29th. During Backlash, the chairman of the board Vince McMahon was competing in a handicap match along with his own son Shane McMahon and the Samoan bulldozer Umaga. The ECW champion Bobby Lashley was on the short end in this one. The team managed to beat Lashley down as for a finish, Vince McMahon covering the champion for the three count. McMahon was then declared the new ECW champion under the booing from the fans.
I ignore the exact motivating the chairman to go ahead and declare himself ECW champ. Let me guess. Maybe he wanted to remind the wrestlers that he solely own the ECW brand and can make whatever he wishes with it. He could even close the brand down and send them all on their own. We saw a few ECW originals comment on this during this week's RAW. Each of the originals ECW wrestlers that appeared on RAW looked angry with the situation. Tommy Dreamer, Sabu,Rob Van Damme and Sandman all said that this was a dark day for ECW. The originals are probably angry for real, no comedian talent was needed for those interviews. And I agree with them. The ECW originals made the brand very popular with dangerous extreme stunts. Right now the only extreme thing about the ECW champion is his age and his ego.
Two weeks ago, an unknown athlete (Santino Marella) has won the Intercontinental championship. I tought it was rather funny on the moment until I saw him yesterday on his first interview. All he could say is that he was like in a dream and still could not believe that he was holding a WWE title. A lack of charisma from Marella made this four minute interview feel like it was fifteen minutes long. Marella will defend his title for the first time next week during RAW. I hope he will lose his title next week to a credible wrestler and end the farce right now. I was fun, let's move on.
So we now have two doubtful champions in the WWE. Santino Marella and our (beloved) chairman of the board, Vince McMahon. Who's next? Linda or Stephanie McMahon winning the womens championship in a bra and panties match? Aargh.
