and their never ending curiosity about living things. Their animals were used as 'labs' in High School Science classes. They were able to learn almost anything this way: Health, Biology, Anatomy, Animal Disease, even Psychology, using their natural interests and passions.
I do recommend, if you are able to give your children this kind of education, that you do so. Children learn best when you allow them to learn about the things that they love. You open doors for them, that would not be there otherwise. My children also look back on their growing up years with fond memories that our family was able to share together. My children remain very close to another. The boys are now getting ready to move out on their own, and they have put a down payment on a place, which they will be moving into together. Knowing that they are close to each other, and will remain so in years to come gives me a sense of comfort, as they go off to face the world together. They have also already told their little sister (now 14) that she will be coming to stay with them on weekends. This makes their leaving home easier on her as well.
As a family we are all thankful for the opportunities that we had while they were growing up. Animals were at the center of their educational experience, and I believe that the education, knowledge, and enjoyment they received from this type of family and school environment, has given them confidence, and a level of intelligence they would not have had otherwise.
