Chronic bronchitis and emphysema are both chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD). Chronic bronchitis includes swelling and inflammation of the airways. The inflammation causes obstruction to the airways and creates sputum, otherwise known as mucus. The "spit" would be thickened and in time change over to jelly like form. The diagnoses comes from the sputum that lasts for 3 months and two years in a row.
Chronic bronchitis also causes body pains as well. Common sense leads us to the fact that if you spit mucus or phlegm for longer than 3 months, you may be damaging or depleting the health of the other parts of your body that may cause such uncomfortable moments for you. Your joints may hurt, throat may hurt from spitting or coughing as well as the other places affected. Chronic bronchitis is a COPD which in the years was known to be the fourth leading cause of death among many. Smoking and second hand smoke seems to be that one true cause of chronic bronchitis and in time they may find other contributing factors.
If you have these symptoms what do you do? Try to switch your liquids. If you drink a soda, it will agitate your system to cough up more mucus. Switch to more water. You want to eat things that have nutritional values but not all fruits and vegetables will help. Some to stay away from would be the citrus groups such as oranges. Raw apples, broccoli, carrots and any gas giving foods also cause problems for your system. Google the words 'nutrition for chronic bronchitis' to search for these lists, they are there. The day you decide go into your doctors office they may give you a test if you do seem to suffer from such a problem. It is called a Spirometry test which can also tell what age your lung is functioning at. Lungs can age sooner than you due to past damage. You may get a new spray called Spiriva HandiHaler pill spray to inhale once a day. Whether you get that or not, exercise more, eat better, drink more water and QUIT SMOKING! If you can not quit smoking learn to week off of them. There are many online links for help. Google 'help for quitting smoking' if you need some resources. If you change your environment then you should live a very productive life and may even feel as if you suffer from nothing at all. The key is to learn and understand what you should do to let that happen and actually overcome by effort. Consider yourself the little train that could.
