Boston is a great city to visit any time of year, but Spring time in Boston is truly special. The winters are usually harsh, and the regenerative powers of Spring are on particular display in Boston. It can be a bit rainy, and you'll get the odd snowstorm now and again, but if you're aching to get outside and have some Spring time fun, you can do a lot worse than Boston. Below, I've listed 10 fun thing to do in Boston in the Spring.

FREEDOM TRAIL A great way to spend a day in Boston is to walk its famous Freedom Trial. It's about 2.5 miles long, and it's designed to guide pedestrians through the older colonial era sections of Boston and Charlestown. It starts at the Boston Common and takes the walker past numerous historical sites including the State House, the King's Chapel, the Old South Meeting House, Faneuill Hall, the Paul Revere House, the Old North Church, the U.S.S. Constitution, the Bunker Hill monument, as well as three colonial era burying grounds. Wear appropriate footwear.

BUNKER HILL MONUMENT If you're not too tired by the time you've finished the Freedom Trial at the Bunker Hill Monument, you can climb to the top of the 221 foot obelisk. Inside it, there is a narrow spiral staircase that will take you to a small observation area. The views are some of the best in Boston.

HARBOR TOURS If you prefer the water, there are a lot of boat tours of the Inner Harbor as well as some tours that will actually take you out into the Atlantic Ocean. Seeing Boston from the water is a special treat, and you'll be amazed to discover that there are literally hundreds of islands in the harbor. Some of the islands are open to the public for picnicking and hiking.

CHARLES RIVER If you can't get enough of the water, there's also the Charles River and its riverfront park, the Esplanade. Whether you want to run, in-line skate, or sit on a bench and watch the world go by, the Esplanade is a lovely place to spend some time. There are also regularly scheduled concerts held in the park at the Hatch Shell.

SWAN BOATS & THE PUBLIC GARDEN For water fun that it a little tamer, try the Public Garden. A 25 acre sanctuary in the middle of downtown Boston, the Garden is technically a formal botanical garden, but in the center there is a man-made lagoon that is home to one of Boston's oldest concessions, the Swan Boats. They are wooden paddle boats that feature large white acrylic swans at the stern. They are open to the public for riding.
