I find it very interesting that liberals (the self-appointed gatekeepers of free thinking and free choice) try to suppress the teachings of Jesus, the Gospel and the Bible itself at every turn. From Bible banning, to the suppression of the expression of the 10 Commandments in public venues, liberals have been noteworthy in their antagonistic views towards Biblical principals- unless it serves their purpose.
Take the recent quote, "Jesus was a firebrand liberal to the core of his being who strove for peace and championed the poor. And those are two causes for which you have the most contempt of all."
This charge against conservatives was preceded with a list of injustices that he author believed was the responsibility of conservatives throughout history. He finished with what he considered to be the mortal blow when he placed the above indictment at the end of his piece.
I must agree that Jesus strove for peace, and that he championed the poor. That is where the truth ends. Jesus was not a milk-sop pacifist who would have run away at the first signs of conflict, nor would he have sat by and watched bullies and blasphemers turn other people into victims, or turn his Fathers house of prayer into a den of thieves.
These two "bold Jesus" examples may be found in the gospels. In one instance Jesus entered the temple and drove out criminals with a whip, turning over their tables in the process. In the other instance, Jesus was issuing instructions to the disciples and told them to bring their swords with them (in other situations, he told them to leave everything at home). I have intentionally left out the Scripture references. If you want to read them, go look them up.
As far as peace, he is called the Prince of Peace. And that Prince, at times, told followers to go get a sword. At other times, he told them to use other means, thinking through at all times, what was right for each situation. I have to do the same as a Bail Bond Recovery Agent. Some people respond to soft instructions. With others, I have to be very tough, authoritative and physical. I have never violated, "Never mistreat anyone", which is my own personal decree. I carry many tools with me (cuffs, pepper spray, an expandable baton, a TASER, a handgun and sometimes a shotgun), and will use each one according to the situation. Jesus did the same thing.
As far as Jesus being the champion of the poor absolutely. And it is interesting that liberals get so personally insulted when conservatives object to programs
