Recently, I decided to change my life by attending junior college to prepare for a new career. Unlike most people, I opted to take a break after high school. The break was only supposed to be one year maximum. Twenty years later, I finally became motivated enough to take the first step toward becoming a registered nurse. I have worked numerous jobs during the past twenty years, from management to truck driver, but none were satisfying to me. There are three main reasons why I decided to attend college, and there are two effects of my decision.
The first reason I decided to attend college was I was tired of working jobs I did not thoroughly enjoy doing. It becomes difficult to get out of bed in the mornings to go to a job we do not like. While each of the jobs I have had carried some positive aspects, none of the jobs were completely satisfying or gratifying. Another reason I decided to attend college was to be able to earn a better salary. It is very discouraging to work forty hours in a week to then be disappointed by receiving minimal pay. It would be much less stressful to live comfortably without having to worry about how to pay all of the monthly household bills when they total much more than we receive in pay. The final reason I decided to attend college was to be able to help others in their time of need. I have always been a caring person and know that I will enjoy working in a hospital setting. Just thinking of working in an emergency room at the hospital makes my adrenaline rush. To participate in saving someone's life is exciting to me.
Although there will be many effects of my decision to attend college, there are two main effects. Starting college has changed my whole outlook on life. I don not feel stagnant as I did before because I'm being challenged to complete assignments and to keep a passing grade point average. The most prominent effect of my decision to attend college is the fact I am happy. I look forward to completing college and getting to work as a registered nurse. Sometimes the anticipation is overwhelming. I will be excited finally to have a job which is challenging and rewarding.
Though my decision to attend college took twenty years too long, there are many reasons why I decided to enter this endeavor, and all of them are positive. I have already completed two semesters and have learned a lot about the human body and how it works. I have a long way to completion, but hard work and perseverance will prevail. Hopefully, I will be a nurse practitioner in, what seems like, no time at all.
