Digging Through The Dumpster For A Lipstick Smear and Other Ludicrous Backlash
Why "we" are sick of celebrity? Umm. First of all, who is "we?" Is that a global assumption, a national assumption or a personal one? If we are going for global and national here, I hardly think that this is the case. In fact, I believe that the world at large dramatically over inflates the importance of celebrity. And, frankly, the global approach to celebrity borders on obsession. Poor celebrities. I mean, really. What a heavy burden to carry.
What the world needs to recognize is that there really is no such thing as "celebrity." They are just PEOPLE. And hopefully they do what they do for the joy of entertaining people and to share their craft. But "celebrities" have good and bad days, fat and skinny days. They still need a shoulder to cry on when they are mistreated and they have a heightened need to feel that they can trust their friends because any step into the general public has the potential to be a horrific and totally unnecessary nightmare.
Will there be a backlash against these beautiful people? Ummyeah. There is a constant backlash against these "beautiful" people-every time they walk out the door. Some moron wants their name on a piece of paper or wants to dig their lipstick smear or coffee filter out of the trash. How humiliatingly rude. And, I must tell you, not all "celebrities" are particularly beautiful. Did you see Harrison Ford in "Six Days, Seven Nights?" Boy, did he need some cosmetic assistance! (You are still loved, Harry, but really-time to consider the gym!). And, not only that, a lot of "celebrities" are really full of themselves. And a big ego without earned stripes is extremely unattractive.
