Poetry: Pain

Do not judge me
I do that enough

Living in a prison called insanity
Is punishment enough

Stop looking at me
I know what you see...
The very things that imprision me

I try so hard to walk away
But once again, I find a flaw
Hours pass, and I'm losing the day

I cry tears of pain and sadness
Tears that no one understands
Tears that burn my cheeks and numb my hands

Please look a little deeper
Way down deep inside
Don't pay any attention to what you see on the outside

Behind the makeup and clothes, my secrets lie-
Behind my smile, I softly cry

Repetitions infect my brain
Even the doctors can't help
What will become of me, am I going insane?

What I want the most, I cannot attain
For I rob myself of any gain

Why does my image distort itself just so
And why can't I just let it go?

It's much more than just vanity, you see
Its the very core of what I want to be

So away with the smiling faces
With their yellow hair
And false graces

I'll lock the door so no one can see
The Unique Darkness that I carry inside of me
