Newlyweds: Establishing healthy eating patterns for two

Being a newly wed and eating healthy or eating home cooked food will be poles apart. The honeymoon and celebration mood has to subside to think about cooking and eating healthy. From my experience,I would say a newly wed bride will have to learn everything from scratch on cooking.Just a theoretical knowledge on cooking and eating is not really helpful, but a practical experience is required which develops as the days in the married life passes by.Here are some tips that would be of great help to newlyweds.

1.Buy healthy foods-Buy things wisely.Plan and buy small portion of fruits and vegetables for just two of you.If you buy more, you may have to clean your vegetable tray often.Buy variety of fruits and vegetables. When you buy perishable food items like milk and egg, look for the expiry date.Take foods that has a two week gap till the date of expiry.

2.Choosing variety food-Look at the food pyramid at the grocery store.Make a list of what to buy, before you head to the shop.

Cereals-They are the source of carbohydrates.Try to include it in every meal.It could be whole grain or high fiber bread,Brown rice, breakfast cereal or even pasta.Avoid taking too much refined foods with high sugar and salt content.

Fruits and vegetables-Choose to buy in small quantities and include variety. They contain lot of essential nutrients.Include in your meal as fruit or vegetable salads.Nuts can also be included.Eating a handful of nuts a day can provide essential nutrients and minerals.Avoid taking nuts in excess.

Meat and fish-Buy in small quantities. If you are trying to cook for the very first time, try cooking for a single meal.Include fish in plenty.Chicken is also rich in protein.Limit the red meat to once in a week. When you buy meat, ensure that you choose to buy the chunk of meat with fat removed.

Diary foods-You can choose yogurt with fruits, plain yogurt, milk, eggs and cheese. They are high in calcium and protein.Try to buy low fat milk.

3.Drinking water-Drink lots of water.Drink small sips of water often.Try to drink about 8 glasses of water a day .Water is important for overall body functions.

4.Eating out-Try to eat home cooked food.Avoid buying too much tinned food rich in salt, oil and sugar.Limit eating out to not more than 2-3 time a week in any case.

5.Eating foods in the refrigerator-Avoid eating very old cooked food.Try to finish all cooked food with in 2-3 days of cooking.

Above all, exercise to keep yourself healthy.
