Martin Scorsese's influence on filmmaking today

Few people realize just how prolific Scorsese is as a filmmaker. Their minds automatically jump to one or two of their favorite movies.

It's true, he filmed The Band at Winterland in 76. Indeed it was a great film, unique for its time in the way it was filmed and put together. In fact, Scorcese continued to work with popular artists to produce music videos; most notably Micheal Jackson's "Bad".

Never one to shy away from controversy, he shocked us with "Taxi Driver" and "The Last Temptation of Christ." Both films created quite a ruckus in their day. One could say he paved the way for subjects once considered taboo.

His slick, fun way of looking at violence and drugs in "Goodfellas", and "Casino" have been imitated, but never equaled.

More recently, Scorsese released a wonderful documentary about Bob Dylan called "No Direction Home." In my opinion, it is one of the greatest films ever made about an artist.

Scorsese will be studied in years to come by film students.
