Explaining why children love learning about animals

Children and animals just go together. Most children like to learn about animals and if they have animals as pets, they can also learn alot from them.

We all love soft fluffy animals with appealing eyes and children are no exception. Dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and hampsters all make excellent pets for kids who want a pet to cuddle and stroke, but fish, tropical or cold water, birds or reptiles are equally loved by many kids.

From keeping pets, children learn what is needed to care for them:

1. Regular feeding
2. Clean fresh water
3. Keeping their pet clean
4. Keeping the pets sleeping area, or cage, clean
5. Giving them attention
7. Giving it exercise
6. Clearing up after them.
7. Making sure they don't get sick

Whilst caring for pets they are learning these valuable lessons:

1. They learn responsibility
2. That caring for a pet has to be done every day, not just when they feel like it.
2. That they must make time for their pet and even think of the pet before themselves.
3. They learn that the animal depends on them
4. They learn how different animals have different needs.

If kids are interested in learning about animals, then keeping a pet will teach them a lot. Encourage them to read and research about their pet and perhaps keep a scrapbook with photos and information about it. It will be a record of how their pet has grown and thrived under their care.
