Weighing alternatives to day care for working parents

Adequate child care is often considered a challenge amongst the working families. all too often parents place their children into the care of day care centers without weighing their options. Exploring the alternatives will give you a better selection of who cares for your child.

First option would be to become a stay at home parent. Have you considered the amount of money you will spend on dependable day care costs? Have you calculated in the upkeep on the car and cost of gas and oil? Is your income enough to cover these expenses? If not, you may definitely consider raising your child until day care isn't needed. If it seems you will be working for peanuts, you may wish to trade those peanuts in for a lifetime of memories and a few years of vacation while raising your own child, your way.

If being a stay at home parent isn't possible and you need to work, you may try hiring another stay at home parent. You would take your child daily to this provider. It would be cheaper than day care, and your child would get a more "home" environment atmosphere.

Keeping your child comfortable, you may decide to bring a family member to your home. This could be your mother-in-law or sister or even a niece or nephew. They are already familiar with your child. He will feel comfortable in their presence. He will sleep in his bed, eat at his table and play with his own toys. This may be split up week by week or into half days with different relatives. If necessary, you may send your child to their house.

Whatever choice you make, know that it can always be changed. Ask your child his opinion, if he cannot yet speak, listen to his body language. He will let you know if he is comfortable with his child care provider.
