The first American to die protesting aloud.
Since then we've bled in countless fights
Defending our country and human rights.
We fell at the Alamo and on Saipan,
Gettysburg, Iwo, the Marne and Bataan.
We waded ashore to capture Inchon,
And lived through the futility of Saigon.
We soldiers still serve in far-off places,
And we hope you'll always see our faces.
We are your spouses, daughters and sons
And we're proud to be called Americans.
